Six days before my husband's death we had this Godwink. He was in critical care in a small Florida hospital. His pulmonologist told me he was taking a few days off and a doctor from St. Vincent's hospital in Jacksonville would be caring for my Bob. He mentioned his name and I replied "oh, a good Irish name", as my thoughts were on Bob and not much about personnel at the hospital.

The following day the doctor came into ICU and introduced himself to me. I said "my husband had a friend in Pittsburgh with that same last name and he was the man with a personality that enabled him to enter a room of 50 strangers and 10 minutes later he knew them all." The doctor said "tell me more". I answered that the most outstanding thing I remembered about Tom was that he and his wife had 8 children and when asked how they took care of 8 children all at the same time he responded with "it's easy, the older kids take care of the younger kids".

The doctor stepped closer to us and said "I am one of those 8 children". Even though my Bob was so ill and so weak when I introduced them, he reached up with a hand attached to IVs and shook his friend's son's hand. The next day the doctor told us that he had been talking to one of his sisters and she said "well, since Dad can not come to Bob, it looks like God sent you to take care of him". We were amazed to have met in this little hospital, in this little town, and there was one of Tom's friends. I later realized that God was telling my Bob and I that He was with us at this most painful and frightening time in our lives.
